حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ كَاسِبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ قَامَ مُعَاوِيَةُ خَطِيبًا فَقَالَ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يَقُولُ " لاَ تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ إِلاَّ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي ظَاهِرُونَ عَلَى النَّاسِ لاَ يُبَالُونَ مَنْ خَذَلَهُمْ وَلاَ مَنْ نَصَرَهُمْ " .

Yaqub ibn Humayd ibn Kasib narrated to us: al-Qasim ibn Nafi narrated to us: al-Hajjaj ibn Artah narrated to us, from Amr ibn Shuaib, from his father, who said: Muawiyah stood to deliver a sermon and said: Where are your scholars? Where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: The Hour will not come until a group from my community stands manifest over the people, caring neither who forsakes them nor who supports them.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic includes Muawiyahs repeated call for the scholars before quoting the Prophetic report. It says the group is manifest or dominant over the people and is not concerned whether others abandon or support them.
