'Ali ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us; Hisham ibn 'Urwah narrated to us, from his father, from 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, from al-Zubayr, who said: On the day of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: May my father and mother be your ransom.

The Arabic idiom literally says the Messenger joined his two parents for me; the English witness translates it literally as “named his parents together.” It is an expression offering one parent and the other as ransom.
