Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us: Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, from Muawiyah ibn Salih: al-Hasan ibn Jabir narrated to me, from al-Miqdam ibn Madikarib al-Kindi, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon a man will recline on his couch, and when one of my reports is related to him, he will say: Between us and you is the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Whatever we find in it as lawful, we will treat as lawful, and whatever we find in it as forbidden, we will treat as forbidden. Behold, what the Messenger of Allah has forbidden is like what Allah has forbidden.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The report portrays someone dismissing Prophetic reports in favor of what he finds in the Quran, then explicitly states that what the Messenger has forbidden is like what Allah has forbidden. The full chain and contrast are retained.
