Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna reported to us: Abd al-Wahhab ibn Abd al-Majid reported to us: Khalid al-Hadhdha reported to us, from Abu Qilabah, from Anas ibn Malik, that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, ‘The most merciful of my community toward my community is Abu Bakr; the firmest of them in Allah’s religion is Umar; the most sincere of them in modesty is Uthman; the soundest in judgment is Ali ibn Abi Talib; the finest reciter of the Book of Allah is Ubayy ibn Kab; the most knowledgeable of them about the lawful and the unlawful is Muadh ibn Jabal; and the most knowledgeable about inheritance shares is Zayd ibn Thabit. Every community has a trusted guardian, and the trusted guardian of this community is Abu Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah.’
