Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us: Ghundar narrated to us, from Shubah. (Another chain:) Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us: Shubah narrated to us, from Amr ibn Murrah, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, who said: We said to Zayd ibn Arqam: Tell us a report from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: We have grown old and forgotten, and narrating reports from the Messenger of Allah is a serious matter.

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The source gives two transmission routes: the first ends at Shubah, while the second continues through Shubah, Amr ibn Murrah, and Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla. The Arabic describes narrating from the Messenger as weighty or serious; the English witness glosses this as difficult.
