حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَجَلِيِّ، قَالَ مَا حَجَبَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ مُنْذُ أَسْلَمْتُ وَلاَ رَآنِي إِلاَّ تَبَسَّمَ فِي وَجْهِي وَلَقَدْ شَكَوْتُ إِلَيْهِ أَنِّي لاَ أَثْبُتُ عَلَى الْخَيْلِ فَضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ فِي صَدْرِي فَقَالَ " اللَّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْهُ وَاجْعَلْهُ هَادِيًا مَهْدِيًّا " .

Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Numayr reported to us: Abdullah ibn Idris reported to us, from Ismail ibn Abi Khalid, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim, from Jarir ibn Abdullah al-Bajali, who said: Since I accepted Islam, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) never kept me from him; whenever he saw me, he smiled at me. I complained to him that I could not stay steady on horseback. He struck my chest with his hand and said, ‘O Allah, make him steadfast, and make him one who guides and is rightly guided.’
