Hishām ibn ʿAmmār narrated to us: Ṣadaqah ibn Khālid narrated to us: ʿUthmān ibn Abī ʿĀtikah narrated to us, from ʿAlī ibn Yazīd, from al-Qāsim, from Abū Umāmah, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “You must acquire this knowledge before it is taken away; its being taken away means that it is lifted up.” He joined his middle finger and the one next to the thumb like this. Then he said: “The scholar and the learner are partners in the reward, and there is no good in the rest of the people.”
