Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: They said: Ghundar, Muhammad ibn Jafar, narrated to us: Shubah narrated to us, from Jami ibn Shaddad, Abu Sakhrah, from Amir ibn Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, from his father, who said: I said to al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam: Why do I not hear you narrate from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) as I hear Ibn Masud and so-and-so and so-and-so? He said: I have not been apart from him since I became Muslim, but I heard him say one statement: Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The report explains why al-Zubayr narrated relatively few reports despite accompanying the Prophet since becoming Muslim: he had heard a grave warning about deliberate fabrication. The two unnamed examples are left unnamed as in the Arabic.
