حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، أَنْبَأَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْكِنْدِيِّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ " إِنَّ أُنَاسًا مِنْ أُمَّتِي سَيَتَفَقَّهُونَ فِي الدِّينِ وَيَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ وَيَقُولُونَ نَأْتِي الأُمَرَاءَ فَنُصِيبُ مِنْ دُنْيَاهُمْ وَنَعْتَزِلُهُمْ بِدِينِنَا . وَلاَ يَكُونُ ذَلِكَ كَمَا لاَ يُجْتَنَى مِنَ الْقَتَادِ إِلاَّ الشَّوْكُ كَذَلِكَ لاَ يُجْتَنَى مِنْ قُرْبِهِمْ إِلاَّ " . قَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ كَأَنَّهُ يَعْنِي الْخَطَايَا .

Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ informed us: al-Walīd ibn Muslim informed us, from Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Kindī, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Abī Burdah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: “Some people among my community will gain understanding of the religion and recite the Quran. They will say that they will go to the rulers to get some of their worldly wealth while keeping their religion separate from them. That will not be so. Just as nothing can be gathered from the qatād thorn tree except thorns, nothing can be gained by being close to them except...” Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ said: “It seems he meant sins.”
