Alqamah ibn Amr al-Darimi reported to us: Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash reported to us, from Mutarrif, from al-Shabi, from Abu Juhaifah, who said: I asked Ali ibn Abi Talib, ‘Do you have any knowledge that other people do not have?’ He replied, ‘No, by Allah. We have only what other people have, except that Allah may grant a person understanding of the Quran, or what is in this document. It contains blood-money rulings from the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace), and that no Muslim is to be killed for a non-Muslim.’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The Arabic concludes with the legal statement that a Muslim is not killed in retaliation for a non-Muslim; the witness’s explanatory wording is kept implicit.
