Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah reported to us: Abu al-Ahwas reported to us, from Shabib ibn Gharqadah, from Sulayman ibn Amr ibn al-Ahwas, from his father, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) say during the Farewell Pilgrimage, ‘No bearer of a burden bears the burden of another. A father is not to be held liable for his child, nor a child for his father.’

The Arabic uses the broad verb tajni, ‘commit/acquire a liability,’ and states that no one bears another’s liability.
