Yaqub ibn Ibrahim al-Dawraqi narrated to us: Ismail ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Muawiyah, from Hanzalah ibn Qays, from Abu al-Yasar, a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever wishes Allah to shade him in His shade, let him give a debtor in difficulty respite or waive part of what he owes.”

The Arabic gives two forms of assistance: respite or reducing/remitting the debt. The wording does not specify that the whole loan must be waived.
