Muhammad ibn al-Muammal ibn al-Sabbah al-Qaysi narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Muhabbab al-Qurashi narrated to us: Said ibn al-Saib al-Taifi narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Yamin, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the claimant, “Take your due with dignity and restraint, whether in full measure or otherwise.”

The Arabic phrase عفاف وافر أو غير وافر is compressed and ambiguous, also appearing in the preceding report. The English witness glosses this as taking what one can, but the Arabic wording is retained as an ambiguous contrast about amount or measure.
