Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and Ali ibn Muhammad both narrated to us: Waki narrated to us: Wabr ibn Abi Dulaylah al-Taifi narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Maymun ibn Musaykah narrated to me—Waki praised him well—from Amr ibn al-Sharid, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Delay by a solvent debtor makes his reputation and punishment liable.”
Ali al-Tanafisi explained: His reputation means that a complaint may be made against him; his punishment means imprisonment.
