Tamim ibn al-Muntasir al-Wasiti narrated to us: Ishaq ibn Yusuf narrated to us, from Sharik, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from Umar ibn Abdullah ibn Umar—that is, from his father, from his grandfather Umar—that Umar gave a horse in charity during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He later saw its recipient selling it at a low price, so he went to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about it. He said, “Do not buy back your charity.”

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The narrator himself clarifies the chain: Umar ibn Abdullah, from his father, from his grandfather Umar. The phrase بِكَسْرٍ is rendered as selling at a low price.
