Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us: Sufyan ibn Uyaynah narrated to us, from Shabib ibn Gharqadah, from Urwah al-Bariqi, that the Prophet ﷺ gave him a dinar to buy a sheep for him. He bought two sheep, sold one of them for a dinar, then came to the Prophet ﷺ with a dinar and a sheep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed for blessing for him. Urwah said: After that, if he bought dust, he would profit from it.

Ahmad ibn Said al-Darimi narrated to us: Habban ibn Hilal narrated to us: Said ibn Zayd narrated to us, from al-Zubayr ibn al-Khirrit, from Abu Lubayd, Lamazah ibn Zubbar, from Urwah ibn Abi al-Jad al-Bariqi, who said: A caravan of goods arrived, and the Prophet ﷺ gave me a dinar. He then mentioned a similar account.

  • Both complete transmission routes and both report forms are translated. The second route gives Urwah name with additional patronymic detail and summarizes the account as similar; the first adds the statement about his later good fortune.
