Muhammad ibn Bashshar narrated to us: Abu Amir narrated to us: Shubah narrated to us, from Uthman ibn Abdullah ibn Mawhab, who said: I heard Abdullah ibn Abi Qatadah narrate from his father that a deceased man was brought to the Prophet ﷺ so that he might lead the funeral prayer over him. He said, “Pray over your companion, for he owes a debt.” Abu Qatadah said, “I will guarantee it.” The Prophet ﷺ asked, “In full?” He said, “In full.” The amount owed was eighteen or nineteen dirhams.
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The Arabic includes the Prophet question confirming that the guarantee covers full repayment, then gives the amount as eighteen or nineteen dirhams. Both alternatives are retained.
