Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us: ʿAbdullah ibn Idris narrated to us, from ʿUbaydullah, from Nafiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: ‘I divorced my wife while she was menstruating.’ ʿUmar mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah, who said, ‘Tell him to take her back and keep her until she becomes pure, then menstruates, then becomes pure. Then, if he wishes, he may divorce her before having intercourse with her; and if he wishes, he may keep her. That is the waiting period Allah commanded.’
