ʿAli ibn Maymun al-Raqqi narrated to us: Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu al-Ahwas, from ʿAbdullah, who said: ‘The Sunnah form of divorce is to divorce her once during each period of purity. When she becomes pure for the third time, he divorces her, and one menstrual period remains for her after that.’
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The source gives this sequence in compressed wording; the reference of ‘the third time’ and the final menstrual period is preserved without elaborating.
The sequence عند كل طهر تطليقةً ثم إذا طهرت الثالثة طلقها is compressed and may be interpreted in more than one way; the final clause says one menstruation remains afterward.
Does the literal sequencing here preserve the intended counting of the divorce pronouncements?
