Nasr ibn ʿAli al-Jahdami narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Aʿla narrated to us: Hisham narrated to us, from Muhammad, from Yunus ibn Jubayr Abu Ghallab, who said: I asked Ibn ʿUmar about a man who divorced his wife while she was menstruating. He said, ‘Do you know that ʿAbdullah ibn ʿUmar divorced his wife while she was menstruating, and ʿUmar went to the Prophet, who ordered him to take her back?’ I said, ‘Does that divorce count?’ He replied, ‘What do you think—if he was unable and acted foolishly?’

The source ends with the question وَاسْتَحْمَقَ; no further explanation follows in this block.
قُلْتُ أَيُعْتَدُّ بِتِلْكَ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ عَجَزَ وَاسْتَحْمَقَ
The closing phrase إن عجز واستحمق is terse; it can be read as ‘if he was incapable and acted foolishly,’ but the implied object of incapacity is unstated.
Does ‘if he was unable and acted foolishly’ preserve the ellipsis without adding an unstated object?
