Sunan Ibn Majah 2122
Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ عَنِ النَّذْرِ وَقَالَ " إِنَّمَا يُسْتَخْرَجُ بِهِ مِنَ اللَّئِيمِ " .
Translation
ʿAli ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Wakiʿ narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from ʿAbdullah ibn Murrah, from ʿAbdullah ibn ʿUmar, who said: The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade making vows and said, ‘A vow only extracts something from a miser.’
