Prohibition of making an oath by other than Allah Sunan Ibn Majah 2095
Arabic hadith text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " لاَ تَحْلِفُوا بِالطَّوَاغِي وَلاَ بِآبَائِكُمْ "
Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Samurah that
the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Do not take oaths by idols nor by your forefathers. "
