Translation

Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us; Ishaq ibn Muhammad al-Farawi narrated to us; ʿAbdullah ibn ʿUmar narrated to us, from ʿUbaydullah ibn ʿUmar, from ʿAtaʾ, from Ibn ʿAbbas, that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) passed by a man in Mecca who was standing in the sun. He asked, ‘What is this?’ They said, ‘He vowed to fast, not seek shade until night, not speak, and to remain standing.’ He said, ‘Let him speak, seek shade, and sit, and let him complete his fast.’ Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad ibn Shanabah al-Wasiti narrated to us; al-ʿAlaʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbar narrated to us, from Wuhayb, from Ayyub, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbas, from the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace), with a report like it. And Allah knows best.
