ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: Abū Usāmah narrated to us: Abū Farwah Yazīd ibn Sinān narrated to me: ʿUrwah ibn Ruwaym al-Lakhmī narrated to me, from Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī—he said that he met and spoke with him—who said: I came to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, and asked: “Messenger of God, we cook in the pots of the polytheists.” He said: “Do not cook in them.” I said: “If we need them and cannot avoid using them?” He said: “Wash them thoroughly, then cook and eat in them.”
