Yaḥyā ibn Ḥakīm and Ḥafṣ ibn ʿAmr narrated to us, both saying: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us. Ḥ Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl informed us: Wakīʿ narrated to us. Both said: Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū Hāshim al-Rummānī—Abū ʿAbd Allāh said: he is Yaḥyā ibn al-Aswad—from Abū Mijlaz, from Qays ibn ʿAbbād, who said: I heard Abū Dharr swear that these verses were revealed about these six men on the day of Badr: “These are two adversaries who have disputed concerning their Lord,” through His words, “Indeed, God does whatever He wills.” They refer to Ḥamzah ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, ʿUbaydah ibn al-Ḥārith, ʿUtbah ibn Rabīʿah, Shaybah ibn Rabīʿah, and al-Walīd ibn ʿUtbah; they disputed over the claims on the day of Badr.
