حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَتَّابٍ، - مَوْلَى هُرْمُزَ - قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فَقَالَ " فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ " .

ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: Wakīʿ narrated to us: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from ʿAttāb, the client of Hurmuz, who said: I heard Anas ibn Mālik say: We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, to listen and obey. He said: “To the extent you are able.”
