Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah and Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā narrated to us, both saying: Yazīd ibn Hārūn informed us: Sufyān ibn Ḥusayn narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever enters a horse in a race between two other horses, without being sure it will win, is not gambling. Whoever enters a horse in a race between two other horses, while being sure it will win, is gambling.”
