Yahya ibn Hakim narrated to us: Uthman ibn Umar narrated to us: Malik ibn Anas narrated to us, from Nafi, from Ibn Umar, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever emancipates a share he owns in a slave, the slave is to be assessed at a fair valuation, and the emancipator is to pay his co-owners their shares if he has enough wealth to cover the price; then the slave is fully emancipated. Otherwise, only the portion he emancipated is free.
