Ahmad ibn al-Azhar narrated to us; Adam narrated to us; Isa ibn Maymun narrated to us, from al-Qasim, from Aishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Marriage is part of my sunnah. Whoever does not follow my sunnah is not of me. Marry, for I will take pride in your numbers among the nations. Whoever has the means should marry, and whoever does not find the means should fast, for fasting is like castration for him.’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The source uses ‘fasting is like castration’ as a metaphor for restraint.
