Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us: Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from ʿUrwah, from ʿAishah, who said: ʿAbd ibn Zamʿah and Saʿd disputed before the Prophet about the son of Zamʿah’s slave woman. Saʿd said, ‘Messenger of Allah, my brother instructed me, when I arrived in Mecca, to look for the son of Zamʿah’s slave woman and take custody of him.’ ʿAbd ibn Zamʿah said, ‘He is my brother and the son of my father’s slave woman; he was born on my father’s bed.’ The Prophet saw that the boy resembled ʿUtbah and said, ‘He is yours, ʿAbd ibn Zamʿah. The child belongs to the marital bed. And observe the veil before him, Sawdah.’
