ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad narrated to us: Wakīʿ narrated to us: Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Ḥārith, from ʿAlī, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, ruled that a debt is paid before a bequest. You recite: “after any bequest made or debt.” The children of one mother inherit from one another, unlike the children of different mothers by the same father.

Abū Marwān Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān al-ʿUthmānī narrated to us: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Ḥāzim narrated to us, from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, that a man asked the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him: “My father died and left wealth but made no bequest. Will it atone for him if I give charity on his behalf?” He said, “Yes.”

Isḥāq ibn Manṣūr narrated to us: Abū Usāmah narrated to us, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, that a man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: “My mother died suddenly without making a bequest. I think that if she could have spoken, she would have given charity. Will she have a reward if I give charity on her behalf, and will I have a reward?” He said, “Yes.”

Aḥmad ibn al-Azhar narrated to us: Rawḥ ibn ʿUbādah narrated to us: Ḥusayn al-Muʿallim narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: “I have nothing and no wealth, but I have an orphan under my care who has wealth.” He said: “Eat from the wealth of the orphan in your care, without excess and without accumulating wealth for yourself.” He said: I think he also said: “Do not use his wealth to preserve your own.”
