Translation

Unreviewed translation. All hadiths in this collection are available in five languages. Titles and introductions may remain in Arabic.

Suwayd ibn Sa‘id narrated to us; al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, from al-Bakhtari ibn Ubayd, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘When you give zakah, do not forget its reward: say, “O Allah, make it a gain, and do not make it a loss.”’

Notes and open questions — unreviewed
  • The source connects zakah’s reward with saying the supplication; the translation preserves that connection without explaining it further.

The construction ‘do not forget its reward: that you say’ does not make fully explicit whether the supplication is the reward or a way of seeking it.

Should the supplication be presented as the reward itself or as a means of seeking the reward?
