Sunan Ibn Majah 4256
Arabic hadith text
قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ وَحَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ : " دَخَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ النَّارَ فِي هِرَّةٍ رَبَطَتْهَا فَلاَ هِيَ أَطْعَمَتْهَا وَلاَ هِيَ أَرْسَلَتْهَا تَأْكُلُ مِنْ خَشَاشِ الأَرْضِ حَتَّى مَاتَتْ " . قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ : لِئَلاَّ يَتَّكِلَ رَجُلٌ وَلاَ يَيْأَسَ رَجُلٌ .
Translation
Al-Zuhri reported from Humayd ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Hurairah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘A woman entered the Fire because of a cat she had tied up: she neither fed it nor released it to eat the creatures of the earth, until it died.’ Al-Zuhri added: ‘So that no person becomes complacent, and no person despairs.’
