Sunan Ibn Majah 4312

Nasr ibn ‘Ali told us: Khalid ibn al-Harith told us: Sa‘id told us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik, that the Messenger of Allah said: ‘On the Day of Resurrection the believers will gather and will be inspired—or will think of it; Sa‘id was uncertain—and say, “If only we could seek intercession with our Lord so that He might relieve us of this place.” They will go to Adam and say, “You are Adam, the father of humankind. Allah created you with His hand and commanded the angels to prostrate before you. Intercede for us with your Lord, that He may relieve us of this place.” He will say, “I am not the one for this,” and mention to them the sin he committed, complaining of it; he will feel ashamed of that. “Rather, go to Noah, for he was the first Messenger Allah sent to the people of the earth.” They will go to him, and he will say, “I am not the one for this,” and mention his asking his Lord about something of which he had no knowledge; he will feel ashamed of that. “Rather, go to the Close Friend of the Most Merciful, Abraham.” They will go to him, and he will say, “I am not the one for this. Rather, go to Moses, a servant to whom Allah spoke and gave the Torah.” They will go to him, and he will say, “I am not the one for this,” and mention his taking a life other than in retaliation for a life. “Rather, go to Jesus, the servant of Allah, His Messenger, His Word, and a spirit from Him.” They will go to him, and he will say, “I am not the one for this. Rather, go to Muhammad, a servant whose earlier and later sins Allah has forgiven.” They will then come to me, and I will set out.’ Sa‘id said that al-Hasan transmitted this wording: ‘I will walk between the two rows of believers.’ The report then returns to Anas’s narration: The Prophet said, ‘I will ask my Lord for permission, and it will be granted to me. When I see Him, I will fall down in prostration, and He will leave me as long as Allah wills. Then it will be said, “Rise, Muhammad. Speak and you will be heard; ask and you will be given; intercede and your intercession will be accepted.” I will praise Him with praise He teaches me, then intercede. He will set a limit for me, and they will be admitted to Paradise. Then I will return a second time. When I see Him, I will fall down in prostration, and He will leave me as long as Allah wills. Then it will be said to me, “Rise, Muhammad. Speak and you will be heard; ask and you will be given; intercede and your intercession will be accepted.” I will raise my head, praise Him with praise He teaches me, and intercede. He will set a limit for me, and they will be admitted to Paradise. Then I will return a third time. When I see my Lord, I will fall down in prostration, and He will leave me as long as Allah wills. Then it will be said, “Rise, Muhammad. Speak and you will be heard; ask and you will be given; intercede and your intercession will be accepted.” I will raise my head, praise Him with praise He teaches me, and intercede. He will set a limit for me, and they will be admitted to Paradise. Then I will return a fourth time and say, “My Lord, none remain except those whom the Qur’an has held back.”’ Qatadah said after this report: Anas ibn Malik also narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah said: ‘A person who said, “There is no god but Allah,” and had good in his heart weighing as much as a barley grain will come out of the Fire. A person who said, “There is no god but Allah,” and had good in his heart weighing as much as a wheat grain will come out of the Fire. A person who said, “There is no god but Allah,” and had good in his heart weighing as much as an atom will come out of the Fire.’
