Al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘The debtor is held captive by his debt and will complain to his Lord of his loneliness on the Day of Resurrection.’ It is transmitted in Sharh al-Sunnah. It is also reported that Mu‘adh used to borrow, and his creditors came to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), who sold all his property to pay his debt until Mu‘adh was left with nothing. This is a mursal report; this is the wording of al-Masabih. The source editor says: ‘I did not find it in the original sources except in al-Muntaqa.’ The listed gradings have not been studied (al-Albani).
