‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Ka‘b ibn Malik reported: Mu‘adh ibn Jabal was a generous young man who kept nothing for himself. He continued borrowing until his entire property was swallowed by debt. He went to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) and asked him to speak to his creditors. If they were going to leave anything for anyone, they would have left it for Mu‘adh because of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace). But the Messenger of Allah sold Mu‘adh’s property until he was left with nothing. Sa‘id transmitted it in his Sunan as a mursal report. Its listed grading has not been studied (al-Albani).
