‘Amr ibn ‘Awf al-Muzani reported that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘Reconciliation is permissible among Muslims, except a reconciliation that makes something lawful unlawful or makes something unlawful lawful. Muslims are bound by their conditions, except a condition that makes something lawful unlawful or makes something unlawful lawful.’ Al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and Abu Dawud transmitted it; Abu Dawud’s version ends at ‘their conditions.’ Its listed grading has not been studied (al-Albani).
