Jabir reported: The sun was eclipsed in the time of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace), on the day Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace), died. He led the people in a prayer of six bowings and four prostrations. When he finished, the sun had reappeared. He said: ‘There is nothing you are promised but that I have seen it in this prayer of mine. The Fire was brought near. That was when you saw me step back, fearing that its heat might strike me. I even saw in it the man with the hooked staff dragging his intestines through the Fire. He used to steal pilgrims’ belongings with his hook. If he was noticed, he would say: “It just caught on my hook,” but if people were unaware, he would take it away. I also saw in it the woman with the cat that she had tied up: she neither fed it nor let it eat the small creatures of the earth, until it died of hunger. Then Paradise was brought near. That was when you saw me move forward until I stood in my place. I reached out my hand, wanting to take some of its fruit, so that you could see it; then it occurred to me not to do so.’ Muslim transmitted it. Its listed grading is sahih (al-Albani).
