Ibn Abbas reported that a group of Companions of the Prophet ﷺ passed by a watering place. One of the people there had been bitten or stung. A man from the place came out to them and asked, “Is there anyone among you who can recite a healing prayer? Someone here has been bitten or stung.” One of them went and recited the Opening of the Book over some sheep, and the injured person recovered. He brought the sheep to his companions, but they disliked this and said, “You took payment for the Book of Allah?” When they reached Medina, they told the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: “The best thing for which you may take payment is the Book of Allah.” In another version he said: “You have done well. Divide it, and set aside a share for me with you.” Al-Bukhari narrated it.
