Urwah reported: Al-Zubayr disputed with a man from the Ansar over irrigation channels in the rocky plain. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Water your land, Zubayr, then let the water flow to your neighbor.” The Ansari said, “Is this because he is your relative?” The face of the Prophet ﷺ changed, and he said, “Water your land, Zubayr, then hold the water back until it reaches the boundary ridge, then let it flow to your neighbor.” Thus the Prophet ﷺ secured the right of Al-Zubayr through a clear ruling after the Ansari angered him, although he had first suggested a more generous arrangement for them both. Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated it.
