Hakim ibn Hizam reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘The two parties to a sale have the choice so long as they have not separated. If they are truthful and make things clear, they will be blessed in their sale; but if they conceal and lie, the blessing of their sale will be erased.’ It is agreed upon.

Ibn ‘Umar reported that a man said to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘I am often deceived in transactions.’ He said: ‘When you make a sale, say: “There is no deception.”’ The man would say it. It is agreed upon.

‘Amr ibn Shu‘ayb reported from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘The two parties to a sale have the choice so long as they have not separated, unless the sale is final; and it is not lawful for him to leave his counterpart for fear that he may ask him to annul the sale.’ Al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, and al-Nasa’i transmitted it. ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘Gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates, and salt for salt: like for like, equal for equal, hand to hand. Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘Gold for gold, silver for silver, wheat for wheat, barley for barley, dates for dates, and salt for salt: like for like, hand to hand. Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri also reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘Do not sell gold for gold except like for like, and do not give more of one than the other. Do not sell silver for silver except like for like, and do not give more of one than the other. Do not sell any of it that is absent for what is present.’ Another version says: ‘Do not sell gold for gold or silver for silver except by equal weight.’ It is agreed upon. Abu Sa‘id and Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) appointed a man over Khaybar. He came to him with high-quality dates called janib. The Prophet asked: ‘Are all the dates of Khaybar like this?’ He replied: ‘No, by Allah, Messenger of Allah. We take a sa‘ of these for two sa‘s, and two sa‘s for three.’ He said: ‘Do not do that. Sell the mixed dates for dirhams, then buy janib dates with the dirhams.’ He said: ‘The same applies to weighing.’ It is agreed upon. Its listed grading is agreed upon (al-Albani).

Abu Sa‘id reported: Bilal brought the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) some burni dates. The Prophet asked him: ‘Where did these come from?’ He replied: ‘We had some inferior dates, so I traded two sa‘s of them for one sa‘.’ He said: ‘Ah! That is usury itself, that is usury itself. Do not do that. If you want to buy, sell the dates in a separate transaction, then use the proceeds to buy [the other dates].’ It is agreed upon.

Jabir reported: A slave came and pledged allegiance to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) for emigration, unaware that he was a slave. His master came seeking him. The Prophet said something to the effect of, ‘Sell him for his own price,’ and bought him for two black slaves. After that, he would not accept anyone’s pledge of allegiance until he had asked whether the person was a slave or free. Muslim transmitted it. Its listed grading is sahih (al-Albani).

Fadalah ibn ‘Ubayd reported: On the day of Khaybar, I bought a necklace for twelve dinars containing gold and beads. I separated them and found that it contained more than twelve dinars’ worth of gold. I mentioned this to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and he said: ‘It must not be sold until it has been separated.’ Muslim transmitted it. Its listed grading is sahih (al-Albani).

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: ‘A time will surely come upon people when no one will remain who does not consume usury. If he does not consume it directly, some of its vapor will affect him.’ Another version has: ‘its dust.’ Ahmad, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah transmitted it. Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) being asked about buying dried dates for fresh dates. He asked: ‘Do fresh dates decrease in weight when they dry?’ The man replied: ‘Yes.’ So he forbade him from doing that. Malik, al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa’i, and Ibn Majah transmitted it. Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyab reported, as a mursal narration, that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) forbade selling meat for a live animal. Sa‘id said: ‘That was a form of gambling practiced by the people of the pre-Islamic era.’ It is transmitted in Sharh al-Sunnah. Its listed grading has not been studied (al-Albani).
