Jabir reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Using stones to clean oneself is an odd number; stoning the pillars is an odd number; walking between al-Safa and al-Marwah is an odd number; and circumambulation is an odd number. When one of you uses stones to clean himself, let him use an odd number.” [Muslim]
Notes and open questions — unreviewed
The repeated Arabic word تَوٌّ is unusual and may be a textual corruption; it has been rendered as referring to an odd number based on the context.
The source repeats the uncommon term تَوٌّ, apparently in the sense of an odd number.
Is odd-numbered performance intended here?
