Sulayman ibn Abi ‘Abd Allah said: I saw Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqas seize a man who was hunting within the sanctuary of Madinah, which the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) had declared sacred, and take his clothes. The man’s patrons came and spoke to Sa‘d about him. Sa‘d said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) declared this sanctuary sacred and said: Whoever catches someone hunting in it should take his belongings. I will not return to you a prize that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) bestowed upon me. But if you wish, I will pay you its price.’ Abu Dawud transmitted it.
