Hadith Text
Abu Talha sent me to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ); the rest of the hadith is the same, but there is a slight variation of wording that he said at the end (The Holy Prophet) took what was left (of the food) and collected it and then invoked blessings upon it and it returned to its original state. He (the Holy Prophet) then said Take this.
Commentary on the Miracle
This narration demonstrates the miraculous nature of the Prophet's blessings (barakah). When the Prophet (ﷺ) collected the remnants of food and supplicated for divine blessing, the food was restored to its original quantity. This is among the clear miracles (mu'jizat) that Allah granted His Messenger as evidence of his prophethood.
Significance of Barakah
The restoration of food through the Prophet's blessing teaches us that sustenance comes ultimately from Allah alone. The physical increase occurred through spiritual means, showing that divine blessing can transcend natural laws. This incident also illustrates the Prophet's compassion in ensuring his companions had sufficient provision.
Legal and Spiritual Implications
Scholars derive from this that seeking blessings through righteous people and their supplications is permissible when done in accordance with Islamic principles. The hadith also emphasizes the importance of not wasting food and being grateful for Allah's provisions, no matter how small they may seem initially.
