Ishaq ibn Ibrahim and Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abi Khalaf narrated to us—and this is Ibn Abi Khalaf wording: Zakariyya ibn Adi narrated to us: Ubayd Allah—namely Ibn Amr—narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Abi Unaysah, from Said ibn Abi Burdah. Abu Burdah narrated to us, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me and Muadh to Yemen and said, Call the people, give them glad tidings, do not repel them, make things easy, and do not make them difficult. I said, Messenger of Allah, give us a ruling about two drinks we make in Yemen: bit, made from honey and steeped until it becomes strong, and mizr, made from corn and barley and steeped until it becomes strong. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had been granted concise speech with comprehensive meaning. He said, I forbid every intoxicant that turns one away from prayer.
