Translation
Sahl b. Sa'd (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying

In Paradise there is a gate which is called Rayyan through which only the people who fast would enter on the Day on Resurrection. None else would enter along with them. It would be proclaimed: Where are the people who fast that they should be admitted into it? And when the last of them would enter, it would be closed and no one would enter it.

The Excellence of Fasting in The Book of Fasting - Sahih Muslim 1152

This narration from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) describes the special honor reserved for those who observe fasting in Paradise. The gate named "Rayyan" is exclusively designated for those who fulfilled this pillar of Islam.

Scholarly Commentary on the Hadith

The name "Rayyan" derives from the Arabic root meaning "quenched" or "satiated," indicating that those who fasted will be eternally satisfied in Paradise after enduring thirst and hunger in this world.

The exclusive nature of this gate demonstrates the elevated status of fasting before Allah. While other righteous deeds have their rewards, fasting holds a unique position since it is a worship between the servant and his Lord alone.

The proclamation calling the fasting people emphasizes public recognition of their devotion. The closing of the gate after the last faster enters signifies the completion of this special honor and the fulfillment of Allah's promise.

Spiritual Significance

This hadith serves as immense encouragement for Muslims to persevere in fasting, reminding them that their temporary worldly deprivation will be exchanged for eternal honor and distinction in the Hereafter.

Scholars note that this exclusive reward applies to those who fasted with sincere faith and seeking Allah's pleasure, not merely out of habit or social conformity.
