The Book of Tribulations and Portents of the Last Hour

Hadith Text

"I and the Last Hour are (close to each other) like this (and he, in order to explain it) pointed (by joining his) forefinger, (one) next to the thumb and the middle finger (together)."

This profound hadith from our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) demonstrates the intimate connection between his mission and the Final Hour. The gesture of joining the forefinger with the thumb and middle finger signifies the closest possible proximity - indicating that with the advent of Prophet Muhammad, the countdown to Qiyamah has essentially begun.

Scholars explain that this proximity is of two types: temporal and spiritual. Temporally, the Prophet's era marks the final prophetic cycle before the Hour. Spiritually, his teachings contain all signs and preparations for the Hereafter. As Imam Nawawi states, this hadith serves as a powerful reminder that we are in the final era of this world's existence.
