The Book of Adornment - Sunan an-Nasa'i 5096

The Messenger of Allah [SAW] cursed the woman who affixes hair extensions and the woman who has that done, the woman who does tattoos and the woman who has that done.

Scholarly Commentary

This hadith addresses two forms of prohibited adornment: hair extensions and tattoos. The curse applies to both the practitioner and the recipient, indicating the gravity of these acts.

Hair extensions constitute deception by artificially enhancing beauty, violating the natural creation of Allah. Tattoos permanently alter Allah's creation, which is exclusively His right.

The comprehensive prohibition encompasses all involved parties, emphasizing collective responsibility in avoiding such practices that distort the natural form granted by the Creator.

Legal Rulings

Both practices are strictly forbidden (haram) based on the explicit curse from the Prophet.

The ruling applies regardless of the material used for extensions or the type of tattoo.

Scholars unanimously agree these acts constitute major sins due to the severe wording of the prohibition.
