The Book of Fasting - Sunan an-Nasa'i 2097

"When the month of Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the devils are fettered."

Commentary on the Hadith

This noble hadith from Sunan an-Nasa'i reveals the immense spiritual transformation that occurs with Ramadan's arrival. The opening of Paradise's gates signifies Allah's abundant mercy and readiness to accept the worship of fasting believers.

The shutting of Hell's gates demonstrates Allah's protection from evil and reduction of temptations during this sacred month. The chaining of devils refers to the weakening of their influence, making obedience easier and sins more difficult to commit.

Scholars explain that these are real, physical occurrences witnessed in the unseen world, while also serving as metaphors for the spiritual realities experienced by believers. The faithful find their souls inclined toward obedience and their hearts opened to divine guidance.

Spiritual Implications

This divine arrangement creates an optimal environment for spiritual growth. With reduced satanic whispers, believers can focus on Qur'an recitation, night prayers, and sincere supplication.

The conditions described are both an actual occurrence in the unseen realm and a manifestation in the spiritual experience of the fasting person, who finds their soul purified and their connection to Allah strengthened.
