Translation
It was narrated from 'Ali bin Abi Talib that the Messenger of Allah said

"Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, says: 'Fasting is for me and I shall reward for it. The fasting person has two moments of joy: When he breaks his fast and when he meets his Lord.' By the One in whose hand is my soul, the smell that comes from the mouth of the fasting person is better before Allah than the fragrance of musk." '

The Book of Fasting - Sunan an-Nasa'i 2211

"Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, says: 'Fasting is for me and I shall reward for it. The fasting person has two moments of joy: When he breaks his fast and when he meets his Lord.' By the One in whose hand is my soul, the smell that comes from the mouth of the fasting person is better before Allah than the fragrance of musk."

Commentary on the Divine Statement

This sacred narration (Hadith Qudsi) reveals that fasting holds a unique status among acts of worship, being specifically attributed to Allah Himself. The phrase "Fasting is for Me" indicates its exclusive connection to the Divine, unlike other acts of worship where ostentation may occur.

Allah alone knows the true measure of reward for fasting, as He states "I shall reward for it," indicating an immeasurable recompense beyond human calculation. This emphasizes the special honor Allah bestows upon this act of devotion.

The Two Joys of the Fasting Person

The first joy occurs at iftar (breaking fast), representing immediate relief and gratitude for Allah's provision. The second joy manifests on the Day of Judgment when the believer receives the full reward for their patience and devotion.

This dual joy illustrates the comprehensive nature of Islamic spirituality - encompassing both worldly contentment and eternal salvation, demonstrating how acts of worship benefit believers in this life and the hereafter.

The Spiritual Fragrance

The Prophet's emphatic oath "By the One in whose hand is my soul" underscores the absolute truth of this statement. The unpleasant physical odor from the fasting person's mouth is transformed in Allah's estimation into something more pleasing than musk.

This remarkable transformation symbolizes how Allah elevates the hardships endured in His path, turning physical discomfort into spiritual beauty. It teaches believers to value what Allah values, rather than worldly appearances.
